Family Applications Under Argentina Citizenship by Investment

Who may be included, what has been officially announced, what remains pending and how a family file should be prepared.

Direct Answer

According to the October 2026 official announcement, a spouse and unmarried children aged 18 to 25 without children of their own may apply alongside the principal applicant for an additional USD 100,000 each, and children under 18 for USD 25,000 each. Every family member is individually assessed; inclusion is not automatic and each adult undergoes full due diligence.

01

How Family Inclusion Works

The program is built around a principal applicant — the person who makes the qualifying investment under one of the two announced routes. Qualifying family members may apply alongside that person, provided the family relationship is documented and the corresponding additional contribution is made.

Each family member is a separate applicant for citizenship. Their file is linked to the principal's, but their identity, civil status, background and — for adults — compliance profile are reviewed on their own merits. A favourable decision for the principal applicant does not, by itself, guarantee a favourable decision for every family member.

02

Announced Family Contributions

The amounts announced by the Government in October 2026 are:

  • Spouse — USD 100,000
  • Children aged 18 to 25, unmarried and without children — USD 100,000 each
  • Children under 18 — USD 25,000 each

These amounts are additional to the principal applicant's investment. They form part of the official announcement and should be read together with the implementing regulations as they are published; the mechanism through which family contributions are paid, and whether they follow the route chosen by the principal applicant, should be confirmed against the final rules.

03

Worked Example

The Government's own illustration: a principal applicant, a spouse and two children under 18 applying under the contribution route.

  • Principal applicant: USD 350,000
  • Spouse: USD 100,000
  • Two children under 18: USD 25,000 × 2 = USD 50,000
  • Total investment: USD 500,000

Government fees, professional fees, translations, apostilles and due diligence costs are separate and are not included in this figure.

04

Spouse

A spouse may be included on proof of a valid marriage. In practice, the marriage certificate should be recent, apostilled or legalised and, where not in Spanish, translated by a certified translator.

Whether unmarried partners or civil unions are treated as spouses has not been expressly detailed in the announced framework. Couples in those situations should obtain specific legal advice before structuring the application.

05

Children Aged 18 to 25

Adult children may be included only within the announced conditions: aged 18 to 25, unmarried and without children of their own. Each is an adult applicant for due diligence purposes and will be required to provide their own criminal record certificates and identity documents.

Age is typically assessed at a specific moment of the procedure. Families with a child close to the 25-year limit should plan the timing of the application carefully; the exact reference date should be confirmed against the implementing rules.

06

Children Under 18

Minor children may be included on proof of filiation, usually through a full birth certificate showing both parents. Where only one parent applies, or parents are separated, the consent of the other parent — or a court order granting authority — is normally required.

Minors are not subject to criminal record checks in the same way as adults, but their identity and civil-status documents are verified.

07

Parents and Other Relatives

The October 2026 announcement does not provide for the inclusion of the applicant's parents, siblings, married children, children over 25 or grandchildren. Until the implementing rules say otherwise, those relatives should be assumed to require their own independent application and qualifying investment.

08

Family Documentation

The following is a practical documentary list based on standard Argentine nationality and migration practice. The definitive list will be set by the implementing rules.

  • Valid passports for every family member
  • Marriage certificate (spouse)
  • Full birth certificates (all children)
  • Criminal record certificates from the country of nationality and countries of residence (adult members)
  • Evidence that children aged 18 to 25 are unmarried and have no children, where required
  • Parental consent or court authority for minors, where applicable
  • Apostille or consular legalisation, and certified Spanish translation, for foreign documents

Civil records are frequently the slowest component of a family file. Obtaining, apostilling and translating them early prevents delays at the submission stage.

09

Due Diligence for Family Members

Each adult family member is screened individually — identity, criminal records, sanctions lists and, where relevant, politically exposed person status. An adverse finding concerning one family member may affect that member's application and can require explanation in the overall file.

The source of the funds used for family contributions is reviewed in the same way as the principal investment. Funds gifted between family members should be documented accordingly.

10

After Approval

Each approved family member obtains Argentine citizenship in their own right and, after completing the post-approval steps, may apply for an Argentine national identity document (DNI) and passport. Argentine citizenship acquired this way is personal: it does not depend on the continued marriage or on the principal applicant's status after it has been granted, subject to the general rules of Law 346.

Citizenship does not, by itself, create Argentine tax residence for any family member. See Citizenship, Residence and Tax Residence.

Assessing a specific case

Eligibility depends on nationality, background, source of funds and family structure. A review by Argentine counsel is the appropriate first step — no outcome can be promised in advance.
